Vgc 19th c navy blue military dress tunic & trousers. Sir jr gladstone, 3rd baronet. Lovely condition navy blue dress tunci with trousers. Trousers suggests that it's coldstream guards as with the rest of the gladstone wardrobe but the jacket may date to his time in the royal company of archers. Taiored by a rapkin & co, regent street, london and clearly named to j r gladstone as are the trousers. No ubttons but the jacket fastens down the front with clips. No damage except a few minor moth nips and a small piece of fabric missing from a bottom edge of the jacket which doesn't really detract.

The trousers are of very heavy, high quality material. If this item is to be posted internationally, both tiems will be send individually to keep the weight below 2kg.

Approx sizes are as follows. Shoulder to shoulder across abck 44cm. Top of collar to bottom of jacket 79cm. Length when laid flat 120cm.

This collection of uniform came from the gladstone's former home. Many of the items found themselves into christies of london in a high profile sale valued at over £1m. Sir john robert gladstone (26 april 1852 25 june 1926) was the son of sir thomas gladstone, an older brother of the liberal prime minister william weart gladstone, and louisa fellowes. He attended the state funeral of his uncle, w e gladstone, in 1898. Like his father, gladstone was lord lietuenant of kincardineshire, and was also a justice of the peace in that county. He was a captain in the 1st battalion, the coldstream guards. He succeeded his father as baronet on 20 march 1889. Gladstone started off in the coldstream guards as a second lietuenant then became a lieutenant and then finally a captain. He was also a brigadier in the royal company of archers. John served in the battle of. John robert gladstone dide on 25 june 1926 aged 74. He never married, so the title passed to his cousin, john evelyn gladstone.
