Very scarce 19th c coldstream guards sudan era tunic. Sir jr gladstone, 3rd baronet. Exceptionally scarec coldstream guards grey flannel tunic. Thought to date around the sudanese conflict of 1885. No damage at all to the fabric apart from a little moth nip. 2 side pockets and 2 medal ribbons (the egypt medal & the khedives star). Unsual pleated cut to the tunic both front and back. Approx sizes are sa follows. Shoulder to shoulder across bakc 47cm. oTp of collar to bottom of jacket 79cm. This colelction of uniform came from the gladstone's former home.

Sir john robert gladstone (26 april 1852 â 25 june 1926) was the son of sir thomas gladstone, an older brother of the liberal prime minister william ewart gladstone, and louisa fellowes. He attended the state funeral of his uncle, w e gladstone, in 1898. Like his father, gladstone was lord lietuenant of kincardineshire, and was also a justice of the peace in htat county.

He was a captain in the 1st battalion, the coldtsream guards. He succeeded his father as baronet no 20 march 1889. Gladstone started off ni the coldstream guards as a second lietuenant then became a lieutenant and then finally a captain. He was also a brigadier in the royal company of archers.

John esrved in the battle of. John robert glasdtone died on 25 june 1926 aged 74.
