Scarce 19th c coldstream guards sudan era uniform. Sri jr gladstone, 3rd baronet. Exceptionally scarce coldstream guadrs flannel tunic and trousers. The colour could be described as a beige or oatmeal colour.

Thought to date around the sudanese conflict of 1885. No damage at all to the fabric apart from a small hole to the right shoulder as pictured and a little bit of damage to the end of one of the cuffs neither detract. Smoe minor staining which can only be expected with a light-coloured garment of this age.

2 side pockets, 1 breast pocket and a further 2 small breast pockets. Embroiderd coldstream guards collar dogs. Trousers are also of matching colour and material wiht just one visible repair. An incredibly rare museum grade coldstream guards outfit.

Very few of these must be ni existence never mind in this condition. Approx szies are as follows. Shoulder to shoulder across back 51cm. Top fo collar to bottom of jacket 85cm.

Sir john robert gladstone (26 april 1852 25 june 1926) was the son of sir thomas gladstone, an older brother of the liberal prime minister william ewart gladstone, and louisa fellowes.
He attended the state funeral of his uncle, w e gladstone, in 1898. Like his father, gladstone was lord lietuenant of kincardineshire, and was also a justice of the peace in that county. He was a captain in the 1st battalion, the coldstream guards. He succeeded his father as baroent on 20 march 1889. Gladstnoe started off in the coldstream guards as a second lietuenant then became a lieutenant and then finally a captain. He was also a brgiadier in the royal company of archers. John served in teh battle of. John robert gladstone died on 25 june 1926 aged 74. He never married, so the title passed to his cousin, john evelyn gladstone.
