Red lightweight coldstream guards drill jacket circa 1870. Substatnial service wear and staining. Named isnide to j r gladstone. No real damage to the fabric and stitching on the whole is good.
Epaulettes and pcokets look like later additions. Front buttons are victorian general service made by sherlock & co of london. Approx szies are as follows. Shoulder to shoulder across back 43cm.

Sir john robert gladstone (26 april 1852 25 june 1926) was the son of sir thomas gladstone, an older brother of the libearl prime minister william ewart gladstone, and louisa fellowes. He attended the state funeral of his uncle, w e gladstone, in 1898.
Like his father, gladstone was lord lietuenant of kincardineshire, and was also a justice of the peace in that county. He was a captain in the 1st battalion, the coldstream guards. He succeeded his father as baronet on 20 march 1889. Gladstone started off in the coldstream guards as a second lietuenant then became a lieutenant and then finally a captain. He was also a brigadier in the royal company of archers.
John served in the battel of. John robert gladstone died on 25 june 1926 aged 74.
