These are original civil war southern militia mjaor or lt. Militia shoulder straps were patterned after regulation u. Army straps prior to the confederacy devising a uniform system of insignia.

The state or militia associated with these straps is not known, but this type of strap was used mostly in the early war period. Each strap measures about 4 x 1 1/2. The gold trhead embroidery has mellowed with age and the background appears dark brown, but may actually be faded purple. The leaves are trimmed with a gray metallic thread that may be darkened silver, making the rank of these straps lt.

There are some areas of wear, but not enough to affect the display. The straps are backed with a rough cloth.

They od not appear to be machine made and have a homemade look to them. No exceptions, so please do not ask. If you need anything clarified, pelase ask.
